Jim Dunbar received his Chemical Engineering degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1987.  He began his career with the Procter & Gamble Company in the same year, working as a Formulation and Process Development Engineer in Bar Soap Product Development in Cincinnati, Ohio. There he was promoted to Senior Scientist in 1990, then Section Head in 1992 where he broadened his responsibility to include Liquids/Body Wash Product Development.

 

In 1995, he accepted an international assignment in P&G’s Great Britain technical center located outside London as Section Head in Hair Care and Colorants Product Development.  While there, he was promoted to Associate Director of Hair Care and Colorants in 1997 and continued his assignment through 2001.

 

Jim returned to the US in 2001 as an Associate Director coinciding with the Clairol Acquisition & Integration, splitting his time between Cincinnati and Stamford, Connecticut.  As the integration work was completed, his responsibilities transitioned to Associate Director in the upstream Beauty Technology Development organization, being responsible across Hair Care and Colorants, Personal Cleansing, and Color Cosmetics categories, and later added Shave Care in 2006.  Also during this time, Jim was co-leader of the global, 900-member Skin & Hair Science Community of Practice within P&G. 

 

Jim was promoted to Technology Division Director in July of 2010 with responsibilities across the entire Beauty portfolio of categories.  He has recently added the Life Science technology platform in support of company-wide development activity based on life-science related technologies to support all P&G categories.  In this capacity, Jim has responsibility and exposure to global partners internally and externally across chemical, biological and physical science disciplines, and leads a diverse organization of over 130 personnel, comprised of PhDs and Engineers across a breadth of education and work experiences.
