Dr. Ernesta Malinauskyte has published an article in Eurocosmetics Magazine on UV damage in hair. The literature suggests that hair photooxidative damage starts from lipid oxidation & the degradation of UV radiation absorbing amino acids. Formed free radicals and peroxides feed further reactions that causes fracturing of hair protein chains. This process is not immediate, and therefore, it is important to identify it early and use preventatives to diminish it. Results obtained at TRI suggest using effective UV absorbing/reflecting compounds & film formers to reduce damage of hair. By this means, UV radiation access to the hair will be limited.
