On May 6th, TRI Princeton and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) held a very successful one-day workshop on skin measurement at the Javits Center in Manhattan. The event was held on the day proceeding the NYSCC Suppliers’ Day and attracted 33 participants.
The workshop was structured to cover four key skin measurement areas; moisture and barrier function measurements, spectroscopy and skin, UV protection assays for skin care and skin micro-relief measurement. Each area featured an introductory lecture to cover the basic science and a more advanced lecture to give participants information about the very latest developments in the respective fields. TRI Princeton staff members, Dr. Samuel Gourion-Arsiquaud and Dr. Paul Cornwell, presented two of the introductory presentations. Invited lecturers were; Prof. Bob Imhof (Biox Ltd), Dr. Curtis Marcott (Light Light Solutions LLC), Dr. Qihong Zhang (The Estée Lauder Companies), Dr. Roger McMullen (Ashland Speciality Ingredients) and Matthieu Jomier (Newtone Inc).

This is the first of a series of collaborations in training and education between TRI Princeton and the SCC. The next will be a course on ‘The Science Behind Hair Claims’ on October 1st, in Long Beach, California (ahead of the SCC California Chapter's Suppliers' Day). Then there will be the ‘Principles and Practice of Skin Measurement Science’ on 16-17th October, at TRI. Collaboration will avoid duplication in courses and increase the marketing reach for both organizations. Linking courses to major SCC events, where possible, also raises the profile of the events and helps more participants to attend.
